DEATH ANGEL gehören für mich zu den absoluten Königen des Thrash. Ihre drei bisherigen Studioalben gehören unbestritten zu den Klassikern des Heavy Metal. Im letzten Jahr konnte ich die Truppe zwei mal live erleben und war jedes Mal total begeistert. Umso ernüchternder ist jetzt die Tatsache, dass sie mit ihrer neuen Scheibe an Thrash-Granaten der Marke EXODUS nicht heranreichen. Inzwischen habe ich die Scheibe ca. 10 mal gehört und muss zugeben, dass sie trotz kleiner Durchhänger doch nach einigen Durchläufen zündet. Songs wie "Spirit" oder das geniale "Prophecy" knüpfen an alte "Act III" Tage an. Etwas Eigenartig finde ich nur eines: Irgendwie erinnern mich einige Songs vom Sound her an Werke von Bands wie den DEAD KENNEDYS und sind mir als Metaller einfach etwas zu punkig ausgefallen. Auch dass Mark Osegueda das Mikro bei einigen Titeln an seine Bandkollegen abgibt finde ich nicht so berauschend. Wer die "Act III" von DEATH ANGEL mag und mit der ersten THE ORGANIZATION zurechtkam, kann sich "The Art Of Dying" ganz beruhigt zulegen. Bei aller Kritik stecken sie aber noch immer 90 Prozent der "restlichen" Thrash- Bands in den Sack.

To my mind DEATH ANGEL are the uncrowned kings of Thrash Metal. Their first three outputs definitely belong to the Heavy Metal classics. Last year I was able to enjoy several live concerts of the band and was enthusiastic every time.But listening to the new album for the first time I was brought back to earth because it is not of the same superb quality as the new EXODUS, for example. Meanwhile I have listened ca. 10 times to it and I must admit that it „clicks“ after several listening-sessions. Songs like „Spirit“ or the brilliant „Prophecy“ are like a trip back to „ACT III“. But it seems a bit strange to me that several tunes sound rather punky just like DEAD KENNEDYS or that kind of stuff. That’s not my cup of tea. Moreover, I do not appreciate the fact that Mark Osegueda passes the micro to the other band members on several songs. All in all : If you liked „ACT III“ and the first album of THE ORGANIZATION this one’s for you. Despite all criticism this album tops 90% of all current so-called Thrash Metal releases without any problems.
