So recht wollen DEGREE ABSOLUTE in keine Schublade passen, was wohl an der Vielschichtigkeit dieses Machwerks liegt. Knallen einem die ersten drei tracks noch in bester NEVERMORE, FATES WARNING (neuere) oder auch DISTURBED (Ten Thousand Fists !) Manier um die Ohren, so plätschern die nächsten drei Titel im (gekonnt) balladesken Stil vor sich hin, wobei der gute Aaron Bell (Ex-DEFYANCE) gesanglich sehr stark an Chris Cornell (AUDIOSLAVE, ex-SOUNDGARDEN) erinnert und auch die Instrumentierung nahe an den AUDIOSLAVE-Werken vorbeischrammt. Mit dem siebten Titel „Pi“ ertönt dann völlig unerwartet ein abgedrehtes Instrumental a la MEKONG DELTA mit vielen Tempowechseln, um anschließend mit „Ask Nothing Of Me“ wieder dem progressiven Powermetal zu frönen. Zum Abschluß wird dann allerdings wieder der Schnarchgang eingelegt, denn „Ergo Sum“ lässt sich leider nur noch als überlanges „Outro“ bezeichnen. Als Fazit kann hier sicher nur eine eingeschränkte Kaufempfehlung ausgesprochen werden, achecken sollte man dieses ungewöhnliche Album aber dennoch, als Anspieltipp sei hier vor allem das grandiose „Questions“ mit seinen gekonnten Tempowechseln genannt. Bevor Ihr aber das Portemonnaie zückt, hört vorher lieber die gesamte CD an !

This band cannot be categorized and this is definitely due to the complexity of this opus. The three opening tracks are real killers in the vein of Nevermore, newer Fates Warning or even Disturbed (Ten Thousand Fists !) that make your ears bleed whereas the three following cuts are very smooth and balladesk but nevertheless well-done. Vocalist Aaron Bell (former Defyance) sounds very similar to Chris Cornell (Audioslave, former Soundgarden). The same goes to the instrumentation. The seventh track shows another facette of Degree Absolute's sound for this one's a very sophisticated and weird Mekong Delta-like instrumental with many tempo changes. n contrast the following "Ask Nothing For Me" is dedicated to Progressive Power Metal. Unfortunately the closing track "Ergo Suma" can only be called a much too long and boring Outro. All in all this one's no unrestricted recommendation. Nevertheless, you should check out this unusual release, especially the really brilliant "Questions" with its well-done tempo changes. But you should check out the whole album before purchasing it.
